Did Valentine’s Day have you batting your lashes and puckering up? The eyes and lips are a constant concern among many women and men. There are several quick fixes for droopy eyes today, which may include:

  • Eyelid taping

  • Lash lifts

  • Tinting brows and lashes

  • Using lash or brow growth serums and makeup contouring

  • A surgical procedure called a blepharoplasty, or, eyelid lift, could also be pursued

You may be unaware, but an upper blepharoplasty is a procedure that many insurance carriers approve, if the provider deems it medically necessary. A visual field test is performed for the surgeon to prove that vision is impacted by heavy, upper eyelids. Photographs are also taken to provide insurance carriers, showcasing the eyes.

This surgery takes about one hour and gives immediate functional results as well as an awakened, younger eye with less impairment by lids. If your lower lids are also of concern, you could opt for a lower blepharoplasty, not usually covered by insurance. Combined, an upper and lower blepharoplasty take a bit longer in the operating room and self-pay would be involved for procedures not indicated as medically necessary.

Lips in most cases are considered a cosmetic procedure, whatever that procedure may be. There are different modalities in improving the look of thin, deflated lips. Some are surgical, including lip lifts and fat grafting, and some are less invasive, including “lip flips” with neurotoxins, or injectable fillers with hyaluronic acid. The less invasive modalities are not permanent, but can provide fullness and more protrusion to the lip temporarily.

Describing these procedures as “wearing makeup on the inside,” Dr. Tuttle gets just as excited as her post-operative patients viewing their results for the first time.

Recently, a subscriber asked for help with improving skin quality in her 70s. Specifically, her concern was thinning skin. Why does skin thin at the face as well as all parts of the body? The answer is volume loss as well as reduced skin elasticity. There are many ways to address loss of volume, as mentioned above, but also the health of the skin. Learning how to properly treat your skin at home to protect it from the sun as well as other environmental factors is the first important step in skin care. Meeting with a skilled practitioner in this area can best suggest what types of procedures you would benefit from, depending on your areas of concern.

Dr. Tuttle recommends working with skin professionals that team with doctors like herself, to work together in improving the look and integrity of your skin! She loves to meet her patients and make recommendations or leverage relationships with her neighboring clinic, Edina Skin Care Specialists, that treat her face, too!

LOTUS subscribers can consult and receive a discount for their first service at Edina Skin Care Specialists.

If you’re interested in surgical or injectable options, Dr. Tuttle is able to consult and treat your facial concerns. Prepare to pucker up and bat those lashes!
